Storyboard Text

  • Scene 01:
  • Maybe you should be more concerned about our profit margins, Joe, rather than gossip!
  • Mary, you've been behaving inappropriately. I would never behave that way. It's not okay.
  • Scene 02:

  • What did I say to make Mary so upset, she has been acting out.
  • Scene 03:
  • I guess I can do that Rebecca. I just feel like it affects our relationship and ability to work together in the future.
  • Hey Rebecca, I spoke to my employee about a minor issue and it made things worse. What should I do?
  • I'm sorry she's acting like this. I would say to avoid it, so the situation doesn't escalate. I'm sure it was a one time thing and it will resolve itself.
  • Mary: That was awful, why would you submit that!
  • Mary has been experiencing financial hardship at home which results in having sporadic outbursts where she yells at her co-workers. Joe is very confused by her sporadic attacks as they are out of character so he decides to confront her.
  • Scene 04:

  • Joe contemplates what he should do about the situation.
  • Scene 05:
  • Tell me how it went the first time you approached the situation.
  • Joe confines in a senior manager. He is asking for advice on how to handle an uncomfortable situation with Rebecca. He is worried that if he ignores the conflict, it will result in a loss of teamwork and a healthy workplace environment.
  • Scene 06:
  • I'm really sorry that you're going through this Mary. Would you like to tell me more about the situation. How best can I support you through this?
  • The situation is escalating and becoming a daily occurrence. It is affecting not only the other employees but the customers as it creates a toxic environment.
  • Um this is very unprofessional, I might take my business somewhere else
  • Joe revisits the situation with Mary as avoidance did not resolve the conflcit. He has decided he needs to intervene with the situation.
  • I wished I asked how you approached the situation earlier. You have to be willing to listen, empathetic, and figure out if there is an underlying issue that is causing this behavior.
  • Well I told her to stop because I would never behave that way-
  • Okay, I'll give it another shot!
  • Joe revisits his conversation with Mary with the intent to listen. She opens up about her financial hardships.
  • I appreciate you listening. I didn't know this problem was affecting my behavior to this extent.
