The theme is that this boy is very vain and highly immature and goes desperate measures to get it straight to others. This part shows how he always delivers with rough and childish action, more used for attention. He is the spot light in the book as he is and probably always will be in the story. They tumbled in the dirt fighting which show a sense of a wild side for Mr. Sawyer.
