Okay class. Today we will be doing a lab on mixtures and solutions.
A mixture is made when 2 or more substances combine but do not physically change.
A solution is when 2 or more substances combine and physically change. A solution is formed by 1 solvent and 1 or more solutes. The solvent is the substance that dissolves the solute. The solute is what dissolves in the solvent.
What are solutions and mixtures?
So in this lab, the salt is the solute and the water is the solvet!
Oh no! I added too much salt and now it wont dissolve!
The concentration in the solution also increased when you added more salt. Concentration is the amount of a particular substance in a given quantity of a mixture or solution.
The solution has become supersaturated. When a solution is supersaturated, it contains more of the dissolved material than could be dissolved.
This salad is heterogeneous mixture because each substance keeps its physical properties and can be easily separated.
