Storyboard Text

  • Ms. Abbott
  • Okay class. Today we will be doing a lab on mixtures and solutions.
  • Ms. Abbott
  • A mixture is made when 2 or more substances combine but do not physically change.
  • A solution is when 2 or more substances combine and physically change. A solution is formed by 1 solvent and 1 or more solutes. The solvent is the substance that dissolves the solute. The solute is what dissolves in the solvent.
  • What are solutions and mixtures?
  • So in this lab, the salt is the solute and the water is the solvet!
  • Oh no! I added too much salt and now it wont dissolve!
  • Ms. Abbott
  • The concentration in the solution also increased when you added more salt. Concentration is the amount of a particular substance in a given quantity of a mixture or solution.
  • The solution has become supersaturated. When a solution is supersaturated, it contains more of the dissolved material than could be dissolved.
  • This salad is heterogeneous mixture because each substance keeps its physical properties and can be easily separated.
