  • 52 B.C. Caesar defeated the barbarians North of Rome. He became a popular military leader.
  • Pompey and Caesar Fight
  • 49 B.C. Caesar refused to disband his army and crossed the Rubicon River in an attempt to take over Rome.
  • Caesar Declared Dictator
  • 49 B.C. Roman Civil War - Pompey the Great is recruited to protect the Roman Republic.  He knows that he is no match for Caesar.  So, he abandons Rome to build an army that can match Caesar.
  • Caesar Assassinated
  • 48 B.C. Battle of Pharsalus - Caesar with 22,000 troops defeats Pompey with 45,000.  Pompey was pressured by the Senators of Rome to attack before he was ready.
  • Julius Caesar declared himself dictator for life.  He would grant himself additional power over Rome.
  • 44 B.C.  Ides of March - Caesar is assassinated by his political opponents in the Roman Senate.  His grand nephew Octavian Augustus will become the next Roman Emperor.
