Hayden Edwards recieved his empresario contract in 1835. He settled 800 families near Nacogdoches. He had to respect the old settlers. He broke this law. Mexico took his contract away. So he started a rebellion. He ran away when S.F.A and his militia also Mexicos army came after him.
The Goliad Massacre
Texans ambushed about 100 Mexican troops. They fought for the silver they thought the troops had. Texas won but all the silver was apparently grass. The Mexicans were going to feed there animals. But they died.
The Mier y Tearn Report
Manuel y Teran wrote a report which made the law of April 6, 1830 pass. It was to strictly control American influence on Texas. To make sure the law was inforced the government placed military bases and government offices along the borders. It took many of empresarios contracts away. It did issue empresario grants to Mexicans and Catholic Europeans.
Battle of San Jacinto
During the Battle of Coleto Texas was pinned down without cover. Mexican reinforcements arrived the next morning. James Fannin army was injured and outnumbered. They surrendered. Mexico marched Texas troops to Goliad. Mexico slaughtered over 400 Texan troops.
Mexico had concerns with the amount of Americans in Mexico. They sent General Manuel de Teran to do a report. He began the report in early 1828. He arrived on March 1. He and Stephen F. Austin discussed concerns with Anglo Americans. The report read Anglos outnumbered Tejanos 10 to 1.
Mier y Teran
Texas set up on the San Jacinto River. The only way Mexico could attack would to cross a field. Mexico arrived in the afternoon. Mexico set up camp in a vulnerable spot. Santa Anna's forces were seen by Texans. On April 21, General Cos arrived with 540 soldiers. Before noon on April 21, Sam Houston called a meeting with his soldiers. They decided to attack that afternoon.
