Anagnorisis- the moment when the hero makes an important discovery. Oedipus finds out that his real father gave him away when he was born.
Catharsis-the audience's feelings of pity and fear. The audience shows pity after Oedipus killed his father and married his mother without knowing
You shall lie with your own mother and take the blood of your father
Harmartia-the hero's flaw that leads to his tragic downfall. Oedipus flaw was his denial to believe the prophecies that was told to him.
Dramatic Irony- irony that the audience understands but the character doesn't see. The audience knew the truth with the prophecy but Oedipus was clueless.
Nemesis-the unavoidable fate of the hero , caused by his own hubris. Oedipus finds out the truth and he blinds himself. The mother commit suicide.
Peripeteia- the hero's experience of a reversal of fate or fortune. Oedipus leaves Thebes thinking he was escaping the prophecy but was heading to the real truth.
