Haden Edwards was finally an empresario. He got his contract from Mexico. He demanded the settlers to pay taxes. In 1826, the Mexican government canceled his contract. Haden and some of his supporters declared them free from Mexico's rule. Stephen F. Austin made a militia to go after. Haden and his supporters fled after they heard some Mexican troops and a militia was coming after them.
The Siege of the Alamo
Mexico sent General Manuel de Mier y Teran to go to Texas and write a report of how many Americans lived in Texas and to examine the boundary with Louisiana. Mier y Teran met SFA and discussed some concerns with him about Anglo settlers. He went to Nachodoches to continue his report. The United States outnumbered the Tejanos 10 to 1. The American influence grew bigger and stronger everyday.
Battle of the Alamo
The Mexican general sent Domingo de Ugartechea ordered the people of Gonzales to give back the cannon Green Dewitt had received four years before. Ugartechea sent troops to go receive the cannon back. Many people asked for help and finally helped arrived in Gonzales. The Texan army grew. They made a flag that said COME AND TAKE IT. The Mexican left and went to San Antonio.

Remember the Alamo
Texans were working fast to built some walls around the Alamo. Santa Anna's army was about to approach. Mexican troops were marching down to the Alamo on February 23. The battle began. The Texans were losing. Travis sent out a pleading letter asking for help and aid. Bowie died and Travis took over. Travis ordered them to save their lives and stop fighting Mexico.
Travis sent more letters for help. Gonzales sent some troops to help but not enough. The Mexicans went in the Alamo and blew it up with a cannon. As the smoke cleared up, almost all of the Texas defenders were dead. Santa Anna was convinced that the Texans would surrender after the fall of the Alamo. The Texans will call out "Remember the Alamo" and fight back.
The Houston army set up camp by the San Jacinto River. The Mexican army set up camp on the other side of the river and by Buffalo Bayou. The Houston army would attack that afternoon. At 3:00 pm they started to the Mexicans' camp. The Texans attacked them while they were asleep. The battle was only 18 minutes long then the Mexicans surrender. The Texans has won.
