I am 16 years old and today I am leaving my parents, brother, and my dog to become a voyager! I usually stay at the farm and do tasks but I am very bored and I want an adventure. I don't think my parents are very happy!
Our brigade left St. Anne's. It is only the first day and my muscles and blisters already ache like crazy! My brigade doesn't treat me very kind, they make fun of how young I am and they don't respect me. I miss my family and I'm definitely homesick.
We our now camping on land from a big day of our first rapids. The brigade didn't want to portage, so instead we stayed in the canoe and paddled for the day. Water was splashing up everywhere and I swear I almost fell off the canoe at one point! I hope we never go through rapids again.....
We finally finished crossing Lake Superior and we decided to cut through the middle of the lake instead of going around the edge, we thought that would save up time. The wind was so unbelievably strong that I thought I was going to fly up in the air! It was still hard to paddle but I think I'm getting the hang of it.
We are finally at Grand Portage! I am so excited to be here and to know I finally made it. The food here is amazing compared to what we usually had while on the ride here. The people here are so kind and treat me very nicely. But I am not very excited for the ride back to Lachine....
During my time of being a voyager was torture! It was a lot of work and the brigade treated me like a little baby and were very rude. I did meet someone that I know from school that was in my brigade, he was the only person that was actually kind to me. I will not be wintering over. Though it was still fun and exciting, being a Voyager is not for me, I missed my family and my dog too much.
