It was just like any other day in Marjory Stoneman Douglas School.
It all began when the students and teachers heard the second fire alarm of the day. Kids saw panic in other people's eyes and the scurrying of people escaping the premises. They didn't think much of it, but little did they know the real reason for the panic.
As soon as they got outside, they heard the gunshots and word got around. Marjory Stoneman Douglas had a mass shooter on the premises.
Nicolas Cruz, a former student had entered the school and begun to shoot at innocent teachers and children.
17 people died during the parkland shooting. These are their names: Alyssa Alhadeff Scott Beigel Martin Duque Nicholas Dworet Aaron Feis Jaime Guttenberg Chris Hixon Luke Hoyer Cara Loughran Gina Montalto Joaquin Oliver Alaina Petty Meadow Pollack Helena Ramsay Alex Schachter Carmen Schentrup Peter Wang
Emma Gonzalez, a student at Parkland, spoke about how she was affected by the parkland shooting. Emma lost close friends and wanted to put an end to gun violence.
Little did she and other student survivors know, they would become the leaders of a movement catching the attention of Americans across the nation. They would spark a series of marches and protests for gun control that would cause a shift in American thinking.
"If you actively do nothing, people continually end up dead, so it's time to start doing something."
