  • Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th, 1918. While he grew up Great Britain and South Africa gained full independence. That means they weren't ruled by another country
  • Family
  • There were also many new prime ministers like J. B. M. Hertzog. The prime minster is the head of an elected government.
  • Jail Time
  • While Nelson was older he had witnessed and gone through rough times of war. Nelson was not involved in these wars however. Like people right now he went to college, Nelson went to Fort Hare college and studied law.
  • Nelson had 3 wives and 5 children. They all lived in South Africa.
  • In 1962 Nelson was arrested and sent to jail for 5 years. Nelson was arrested for leaving the country illegally. Later, Nelson and 8 other men were sentenced to life in join do to sabotage and trying to over throw the government.
