Storyboard Text

  • Rivals were planning on attacking Pope Leo 111 and stripping the title of pope from him. When Leo found out he left Rome and fled to Charlemagne, a devout christian in seach for help.
  • Ok, I'm leaving, I'm leaving.
  • We don't like you! Leave now!
  • Charlemagne! I need your help. My followers have turned against me.
  • Charlemange went back to Rome with the pope to support him, and it worked. Charlemange did not leave without something in return. Loe repayed Charlemange by crowning him emperor. Charlemange's coronation had many lasting effects.
  • I'd be happy to help, Leo.
  • Sir, the Eatern churches are offended of you being crowned Emperor, however our church gaining power.
  • The other church will get over it, it is good we are gaining power though.
  • The Eastern Orthodox church was viewed the crowning of Charlemagne an insult to the Byzantine empire. This resulted in a conflict between the the 2 churches. however this also strengthened the western church.
  • The relationship between Leo and Charlemange didn't last long they had and argument about if god or the church made Charlemange emperor, leading to a dramatic clash between emperor and pope. Eventually the pope made his own rules giving him extra power. this move made the clash even worse.
  • I don't like you! You ideas are so dumb! No yours are, no yours!
  • You're no longer allowed to participate in church activities.
  • I am naming my own bishop, Jonny.
  • The king ignored the pope's set of rules and appointed his own rival bishop. This move made the clash between pope and king even worse. As a result the pope excommunicated the king.
  • Well I am naming my own better bishop, Timmy.
  • Eventually the pope and king came upon and agreement, called the Concordat of Worms. This gave the pope the authority to pick the bishop and the king the authority to win loyalty by giving land grants or fiefs. The clash was solved.
  • So it's agreed, you pick the bishop and I can try to earn his loyalty.
  • I agree.
