Ever since Charlemagne was crowned emperor, our church has been flourishing!
Are you kidding me! How could the pope crown a Bishop! IM the emperor
As emperor of Europe, you, pope, will assist me of my daily duties to serve the lord God
WHAT!? No! You will help me do what God told me to do!
Long Ago, one by the name of Pope Leo the Third was threatened by a group of church rivals. He fled and found the safety of a man named Charlemagne. They quickly grew a relationship to the point where Pope Leo the Third crowned Charlemagne emperor of Europe.
HORACE VS BUKANDY
In western Europe, this strengthened the church and established a law in which the pope could appoint bishops of the church. In eastern Europe, however, this was seen as an insult. The Byzantine (Eastern Europe developed the Byzantine empire after the fall of Rome) emperor believed he should be the only person to crown an emperor. This lead to a natural rivalry.
YOU IMBECILE! I am the emperor of Europe, Im in charge of bishops as well as who is and isn't emperor
Quickly, Charlemagne and Pope Leo the Third turned sides. Charlemagne thought that the pope was there to aide him on his quest to fulfill God's plans. However, the Pope thought that Charlemagne should help him with his duties to complete God's commands. Some 200 years later, this would result in a battle between the pope and emperor.
CONCORDAT OF WORMS Pope shall command thy tributes through process thy describe as appointing bishops and emperor shall heed in the process of the tributary granting land in exchange for thy tributaries loyalty towards oneself
On another episode of the great Schism show, we will have hidden person documenting the entire conversation between an emperor and a bishop. In this episode, we will see the battle between pope Horace vs emperor Bukandy. If you enjoy this episode, feel free to share with your friends and go to the billboard for more daily episodes.
When Horace was first crowned, he created a long list of what he could do including appointing bishops, commander over religious and secular leaders, but the main was... the ability to de-throne emperors. Bukandy did not like this list as he felt it took away his power. Lets see their conversation.
Im in charge of all the churches! I should be able to appoint bishops! Also, with this power, i'm able to de-throne emperors like you who are snotty brats!
However, a document would soon come out providing a "middle ground" for these two. This document was known none other than the Concordat of Worms. In this document, it gave the pope the power to appoint bishops and the emperor the right to give the bishop fiefs of land in order to gain their loyalty. This document did not stop the fighting between the two for long.
