  • DNA & Replication
  • Good Morning class!  Today we will be learning about DNA which stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid. What did everyone learn from reading their chapter on DNA last night?
  • I learned DNA carries most of the genetic instructions used in the development, function, and reproduction of all living organisms.
  • Mr. Rex, I learned DNA is a double helix, which means it has 2 strands wound around each other.
  • That's correct Jill and Matt! DNA is basically our genes. Can anyone explain the three steps for DNA replication?
  • The first step is the double helix unwinds.
  • The second step is the nucleotides must be added in the correct order.
  • The last step is the new strand must be sealed up
  • Excellent 6th Graders! Can anyone predict what would happen if we didn't have genetics and DNA?
  • Without genes and DNA, life as we know it would not be possible. Genes, or DNA, are the basic molecules of life.
  • Exactly Max! Without DNA, your cells wouldn't know how to make another cell, and they'd eventually die. We wouldn't be here on earth.
