*The North supported the tariff because they has less competition with other producers around the world.
South: -Pro-slavery -Dislikes Tariffs -Live by farming and producing crops
North: -Against Slavery -Likes tariffs -Lives by industries and producing goods
*South had to pay a lot for the tariff because they imported and exported goods
The Missouri Compromise 1. Missouri and Maine joins the union to create the balance. 2. 36' 30' line was made for future states. 3. Created a precedent for the next 3 years.
Before the Compromise of 1850 Calhoun Complains about how California will destroy the balance if the state joins as a free state. Clay decides to make a compromise but dies later. Stephen Douglas took Clay's idea and continued the compromise for him

The Compromise of 1850 Stephen Douglas v. John C. Calhoun. California wants to enter the union as a free state. To keep the balance the North offers a compromise including a fugitive slave law.
Compromise of 1850 Bills 1. California can enter as a free state. 2. People get to vote if a state is a free or slave state. 3. Slave trade ends in Washington D.C. 4. A strict fugitive slave law is made. 5. The border dispute is solved between Mexico and Texas.
