Mr Johnson, why do we even need phrases and clauses? ?
I hate this class.
phrases add extra description and are never complete sentences however, clauses can be complete sentences, and also add extra description to sentences.
We need them because they have different uses in our language. Semicolons are used to show similarity between two sentences. Colons are used to separate a complete sentence and words that clarify the sentence.
Why do we need to have semicolons AND colons?
Why is this dude on a sink?
Trash teacher, I hate this dumb class. I wish I had Mr. Norman
Dependant clauses are 'dependent' on independent clauses because they have to be attached to an independent clause; they are not complete sentences on their own.
What's even the role of subordinating conjunctions?

A colon instead of a semicolon may be used between independent clauses when the second sentence explains, paraphrases, or expands on the first sentence.
You use a semicolon if you have two independent clauses that are closely related to each other
