Queen Jocasta and King Lauis had a son who was said to be destined to kill Lauis, marry Jocasta, and become king.
Oedipus, Lauis has been killed on his trip home by robbers, but know one knows who it is.
3 days after birth Jocasta and Lauis decided to bind the childs ankles together and leave him for dead on a hillside. Luckily for the child, a herdsmen found him, saved him, and gave him Polybus to raise as his own child.
Many years later, while coming home from a trip, Lauis was attacked and murdered by what were assumed to be robbers, and only one man survied the attack.
Oedipus was thought to be the one who would save the town from this tragic loss of a king.
Well how do you know? Where there any survivors? Who ever it was I will kill them for their murderous hands.
After many questions, Jocasta, Oedipus, and everyone else finally finds out that Oedipus was Jocasta and Lauis's child who they thought they killed. And since that was their child, it was brought to light that Oedipus was the one that killed Lauis.
The thought that Jocasta had a romantic relationship with her own child disgusted her, leading to her killing herself in her own room. Oedipus went up to the room and found Jocasta dead, and he gauged out his own eyes because of the sight of seeing Jocasta dead.
