  • Leonato advises his daughter on how to respond to a proposal from Don Pedro. Beatrice continues to claim that she will never get married. She advises Hero to marry someone that she likes, not just someone who will please her father.

  • All the men enter for the dance.
  • Act 2 Scene 1
  • Don Pedro begins to charm Hero. At the same time, whilst dancing with Benedick, Beatrice is irritated by the things her dancing partner says to her. Beatrice insults Benedick in front of him whilst he had his mask on.

  • Don John tells Claudio, acting as Benedick, that Don Pedro has won Hero for herself.
  • Don Pedro explains this is untrue, he has arranged with Leonato for Hero to marry Claudio.
  • Don Pedro plans how to bring Beatrice and Benedick together.
