  • 1585- Roanoke 
  • 1607-
  • Im Caption Newport it's nice to meet you Chief powhatan
  • 1609-
  • No more trading for you 
  • Three ships were sent on a voyage to Virginia. Many people got sick on the voyage and some didn't make it. When they got there there weren't any supplies. So,  John White went back to England for more supplies. Since a war broke out he returned two years later, everyone was gone but there weren't any signs of them being forced to leave. 
  • 1610-
  • Jamestown was founded. Captain Newport and his men came to Roanoke and began to settle. They met chief powhatan the leader of the Indians. During this time they  ran into many diseases and had to fight to survive.
  • 1612-
  • In 1609 the starving time bagam in Roanoke. Since Roanoke couldn't grow many  crops they traded with the natives. Eventually the native stopped trading with them because John Smith angered them, so they began to starve.               
  • 1619-
  • The starving period continued... Another group of settlers arrived at Roanoke that had supplies. With them came John Smith. He enforced harsh laws and was one of the main reasons the settlers stayed alive. 
  • John Rolf then introduced tobacco a their main cash crop. Since it grew so well their they would sell it and use the money to then buy food. Later on John Rolfe married pocahontas, the powtains daughter. 
  • During this time the first representative government came out. Also the House Of Burgesses was introduced. This was when white man that owned and would vote on who they thought should be in control of that area. Also slaves and women were now allowed to come over.
