  • Ernest Hemingway is trying to tell us not to give up and persevere when things are hard.
  • “But remember how you went eighty-seven days without fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks” (PG 1).
  • Eighty-seven days without a fish is hard because there is no food and the fish he does catch is his income.
  • Hemingway wrote The Old Man and The Sea to persuade us not to give up on our dreams when things are hard and difficult
  • The Old man complains about his hand cramps but He still keeps on going no matter how bad his hands are
  • He wrote Old Man and The Sea for people who give up on things easily.
