The Lottery

Storyboard Text

  • The people who had the greatest impact on someone else was the whole town on Tessie Hutchinson. They affect her by throwing rocks at her till she dies
  • The mood of the setting was fun and interesting in the beginning but it got weird and confusing in the end."Mr.Summers spoke frequently to the villagers about making a new box,but no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box."
  • The story is told in third person omniscient if it was to be told in any other way we wouldn't know how any other character feels
  • The main conflict is individual vs society because Tessie is getting rocks thrown at here cause of a random lottery. The character ends up dying because of all the rocks thrown at her that is how they responded to the conflict.
  • The black box is a symbol it represents the tradition of the lottery and the loyalty of the villagers to it.It only remained because the people believed the stories it carried for so long.
  • The theme is to question tradition if you think it is cruel or wrong and this is relevant to readers because of how civilization can be violent for these traditions.
