Storyboard Text

  • 5 Miles
  • 2 Miles
  • Lisa has been driving for hours, and is almost at her destination. She realizes she hasn't stopped for gas in a while.
  • What will I do?
  • Lisa pulls to the side of the road, and uses her phone to find the closest gas station to her.
  • Nearest Gas Station
  • 5.38 miles
  • 2 miles
  • Nearby Town
  • 5 miles
  • She finds that the nearest town is 5 miles North, and there is a gas station 2 miles West of that town.
  • When Lisa gets back to her car, she realizes she only has enough gas in her car to drive 6 miles.
  • Using the Pythagorean Theorem, we can find Lisa's solution.
  • Lisa's Current Location
  • Lisa will be able to make it to the gas station because it is only 5.38 miles away, and she can drive 6 miles with whatever she has left. 5 squared plus 2 squared equals 29. The square root of 29 is 5.38
