It is a nice summer day and after the kids play, Mr. Summers and Mr. Graves annouce that it is time for the village to begin the annual lottery. The village people gather round as they are called to choose their card.
After the town has drawn their cards, Bill Hutchinson realizes that he drew the card with the black dot. Tessie, Bill's wife begans to frantically yell that her husband was not given enough time to draw.
This isn't right! Don't kill me!
The Hutchinson Family is called to draw a card from the box and everyone in the family draws a card.
After everyone in the Hutchinson family draws, Tessie realizes that she is the "winner" of the lottery. She panics as because she knows she is going to die.
As Tessie realizes that she is going to die, she tries to reason with the village. People in the village say that everyone had a fair chance of being chosen. The people begin to grab stones and corner Tessie.
The village people, including Tessie's own children, began to throw stones at Tessie until she dies. The people of the village continue the tradition by stoning Tessie without remorse.
