- can you explain to me what desalination is?
- Desalination is a process that converts saltwater resources into freshwater products. When it goes through the filtration steps necessary to remove the extra sodium from the liquid, the water becomes usable for agriculture, industrial needs, and for drinking purposes.
- Are there any advantages or disadvantages?
- yes, the advantage is that it can help people meet their basic needs, and grow food, and support their livelihood. Desalination gives us water access during a time of drought. you can also use desalination to create more energy, and desalination facilities can be used at almost any location
- and what are the disadvantage?
- and what does this have to do with Qatar?
- yes some of those disadvantages are that it impacts some off the smallest creatures in this earth, desalination plants use a lot of energy, the cost of everything is very high and inconvenient.
- well 60% of Qatars water comes from the desalination plants and those plants consume a lot of energy and use up a lot fo the countries money. These desalination plants are the only way Qatar can get fresh water but the only have three plants throughout the country.
