Odysseus and his men arrived at the land where the Cyclopes lived. They found a cave, but the Cyclops was in the field with his sheep. The men told Odysseus that they should take the Cyclops cheese, lambs, and kids, but Odysseus refused.
Let's take the cheese, lambs, and kids
The Cyclops came back into the cave with dry boughs for a fire. Then closed his cave with a massive boulder. While poking around with his fire, the Cyclops saw them and asked them who they were and where they were from. Odysseus said they were from Troy, and that Zeus would punish the Cyclops if he wasn't a good host. The Cyclops was not afraid of Zeus. Then the Cyclops ate two men.
Zeus will punish you
I am not afraid of Zeus
The Cyclops at two men, and then left and closed the big boulder behind him. The Athena answered Odysseus's prayer and gave him an idea. Odysseus and his men made a stake out of a club or staff made out of an olive tree. Then the Cyclops came home and ate two more men. Odysseus offered him wine and told the Cyclops his name was Nohbody. Then when the Cyclop was asleep, Odysseus stabbed his eye with the stake.
The Cyclop screamed from pain, and it alerted the other Cyclopes. The Cyclopes asked Polyphemus what was wrong. Polyphemus answered, "Nohbody tricked me." Then the Cyclopes left. Odysseus still needed a way out, so he tied his men to Polyphemus's rams.
Then the next morning Polyphemus let his rams out, but he noticed something was wrong with the ram Odysseus was on. The ram was normally the first one out, but today it was the last one. Polyphemus just assumed that it was because the ram was mourning over his master's eye.
Odysseus let his ego get to the best of him and boasted about how they to Polyphemus. Polyphemus asked Odysseus to stay and that he would take care of him, but Odysseus was hateful. Polyphemus then prayed to Poseidon for Odysseus to have a terrible trip home.
