Jem & Scout meet Dill, comes to Maycomb every summer. They three of them become friends fast and Dill learns about the town of Maycomb.
Dill becomes fascinated with Boo-Radley, and dares Jem to touch Boo-Radley's house and make him come out, Jem refuses at first, but after Dill's taunts, he is provoked and did the dare.
Boo Radley's Gifts
Scout starts her first day of school, she fights with her teacher, Miss. Caroline, who is a new teacher. Miss. Caroline is not happy with how much Scout can read. Scout also tries to stand up for Cunningham, but Miss Caroline gets mad at Scout and they argue.
Scout has pent up frustration with Miss Caroline so she picks a fight with Walter. Jem breaks them up and invites Cunningham to eat lunch with them. The Finch treats the black maid Calpurnia as part of their family.
On Jem & Scout's way back home, they start finding gifts in the hole of the tree in front of the Radley's house. They try to puzzle out who is putting these gifts there for them.
Dill comes back to Maycomb from Meridian for the second summer. Jem, Scout, and Dill try to act out Radley's life events. Atticus breaks them up and tells them to stop tormenting that man. That man is Boo Radley.
