Bladensburg - Maryland~ August 24th 1814
Result: American troops successfully defended the fort, however, and the British decided to abandon their siege and move on to Fort Stephenson
Fort McHenry - Maryland~ September 13th, 1814
Result: The battle did little to advance either side’s dominant control of Canadian waters, but the easy victory boosted American morale, fueling the fire for continued attempts at expansion into Canada.
Result: The embarrassing defeat at Bladensburg, coupled with the destruction of Washington, D.C., depleted American morale.
Result: Jackson's triumph set him on a road that ended in the White House thirteen years later. The battle gave birth to the Age of the Common Man and for the next half century, his victory on the Eighth of January was marked by celebrations across the United States.
