the story takes place in a city in the 1960's and it was during the political war between the rich kids and the poor kids
It was in Tulsa Oklahoma and the gang went to rodeos on farms and soda pop liked horses.
At the time madras shirts and jackets, and ford mustangs were popular.
we also know that its a different time because Ponyboy was allowed to smoke in the hospital
most of the book takes place outside probably because they all had broken familys and didnt spend a lot of time at home.
Drive in movies are in the book, and it is a good time clue, because in the 1960's Drive in movies were really popular.
