Storyboard Text

  • When I first read the title, I thought it was about Rome and the Colosseum...
  • ...But after I read, I realized that it was about people from different places coming together.
  • Some connotative words that stood out to us were: Conquering, mighty, imprisoned, mild, pomp, yearning and golden
  • Storyboard by Michelle Grossman
  • I feel that the attitude of this poem is open, mighty and powerful
  • Paraphrase: Unlike Greece, there is a woman holding a torch(Statue of Liberty) and welcomes people from many different places, and with many different cultures. She says, "Give me anyone you got! Send me your poor, send me your homeless. I'll give them a home!"
  • We think that the shift is where the physical break between the line are...
  • Connotation
  • Now that I read it, I know its about immigration and the Statue of Liberty!
  • Attitude/Tone
  • In the top, It talks about the Statue of Liberty and in the second part, after the shift, it talks about the types of people that America would take care of under its care.
  • I think the theme of "The New Colossus" is immigration and taking care of all, No matter what type of "situation" they are in.
