  • Laysha Estrada AVID 8 Period 1  April 2019
  • a. schooling  * 6 years of medical school  * 2 years medical fellowship
  • And here we have the Barbie designed by our students here at FIDM.
  • I'm telling you Eileen,  the fountain is  this way!  No, Laysha, it's this way!  You're both wrong it's back that way!
  • Guest speaker: A neurologist named Dr. Ravin came to our AVID class and spoke to us about her job.  She spoke about the struggles she faced working as a female doctor. She told us about how she fought adversity against women in the medical field.
  • A fact about Occidental is that it is the oldest liberal arts school on the west coast!
  • Field Trips: In one instance we visited FIDM, which is the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. We walked around their Los Angeles campus and saw the work of former students. We learned about all the different opportunities provided to students like their collaboration with Mattel. We learned about the unusual majors offered there too like the business of denim and the more practical product development.
  • I would Ms.Coco. I have been having problems with...
  • Would anybody like to share anything?
  • Field Trips: In another instance, we visited Cal State Long Beach. Here, we participated in a scavenger hunt that led us to various places around campus. We had to navigate ourselves around the school and find the different places listed.
  • College Fair: For the college fair, our class was split into groups of three and each group was assigned a college or university from anywhere around the world.  With our group, we had to research our school and  write facts about the college we were assigned. Then, we had to host a college fair and present what we learned about our college to students, faculty, and family.
  • Circle: During circle, the whole class has to sit in a circle around the room. A talking piece is put in the center of the room. Anyone in the circle can pick up the talking piece and open the circle first. We usually open the circle by saying how we are feeling at the moment, once everybody in the circle shares,  the talking piece is put back in the center. Once the circle is open, anybody in the circle can get the talking piece and share whatever they like. They can share what they like, either good or bad and they can get advice or comments from the others in the circle.
