Lewis was born in 1774 and Clark was born in 1770 and they were both born in Virginia. Lewis spent most of his childhood in Georgia while Clark was in Kentucky.
In 1804 Thomas Jefferson chose Meriwether Lewis to be captain of the expedition and Lewis chose William Clark to be co captain. They had been tasked to explore the lands from the west
It took them 2 years to get there and on their way they faced challenges such as hunger, bad weather, and strong waves. During this time Jeferson bought Louisiana for 15 milion dollars.
Charbonneau was the husband of Sacagawea. Charbonneau was a fur trader and Sacagawea was a sixteen years old that was stolen and sold to Charbonneau and was pregnant. She was from the shoshone tribe. Sacagawea got included to the expedition so they won't look too bad to the Indians.
On April 7, 1805 they crossed Montana and were on their way to the continental divide, this where Sacagawea helped them get them horses.while they were there Sacagawea reunited with her brother which she had not seen since she got stolen.
On march 23rd, 1806 the expedition traveled back home. Lewis' group took a shortcut through the great falls of the Missouri River, while clarks group went south along the yellowstone river.
