Meso -America's landscape is divided into two main geographic area's, highlands and lowland . The Highlands where high above the sea while low lands where low level. The highlands lie between the mountains of Sierra Madre, while the low lands lie across the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Olmec culture started along the coast of Mexico's Gulf coast around 1200 b.c . The development of this culture led to the birth of the first Mesoamerica's civilization. Olmec's cities contained pyramids and temples built on earthen mounds. Olmec's built a court for where they could play there games .
The Zapotec people would build one of the first major cities in Mesoamerica , but there beginnings where humble. They developed their society in the Oaxaca Valley, a large, open area where three smaller valleys meet. For many years the Zapotec lived in farming villages.
Cortez and the end of the Aztecs
The Maya emerged around the same time as the Zapotec. Their culture culture began to the east of Zapotec in the area's of present day southern Mexico. Like Olmec farmers Maya developed successful agricultural practices. The development of the Maya cities created a class system with four main classes. The King, priest and warriors, and farmers
The Aztec nomads migrated into the Valley of Mexico . The Aztecs built many things such as the chinampas which where artificial fields. The Aztecs quickly developed into skilled warriors . The Aztec beilived in these gods, they would sacrafice people and give the gods there hearts.
Cortez was a spanish salior who was greedy for gold and other riches from south and central America. He and his army defeated the Aztecs by giving them diseases such as smallpox that would eventually kill millions of native people throughout the Americas
