In 1789, the France government become in debt. They spent more money than it collected in taxes. Their food prices were high and pay was low. The French had also spent money recklessly on the wars. The nobility also had more privileges than the other people living in France at the time.
Passes the Declaration of the Rights of Man
The Third Estate which was 98% of the population left the meeting and went to a nearby tennis court to have a separate meeting for themselves. Here, they all swore the Oath of the Tennis Court, and promised to write a constitution for France. This was the start of the revolution.
King Louis XVI gets beheaded
Bastille Day is the independence day for France and is on July 14. It is celebrated as we do our independence day on July 4. This day is to remember those that were killed in the storming of Bastille.
Workers Go On Strike
This was a statement of the principles of revolution written by the Third Estate. This declaration declared that all people had the rights of freedom and equality. A famous phrase from the declaration was "liberty, equality, fraternity" which then became the battle cry of the revolution.
King Louis XVI secretly left Paris, but then was found and charged for treason and considered a traitor. He faced guillotine, (a device used to cut off people's heads) in front of a large crowd.
In Paris, the news of the National Assembly became the top event of bad economic news. Many people can lost their jobs and were now unemployed, others were on strike. This then lead to many riots about the working conditions and even the price of bread.
