Storyboard Text

  • Celeste, can you please get your father? My father has severed his thumb!
  • Of course!
  • My hands are so sore!  And the blisters don't help!
  • Demi- Charge!
  • This bag is so heavy! Hopefully  don't get laughed at because I'm so far behind.
  • My father severed his thumb, and therefore was not able to do voyageur work. I made a big discision, and signed on to be a voyageur to help support my family. I love my family, and I will miss them very much, but I am old enough to care for myself, and help my family, too.
  •  To pass time while rowing, I counted my strokes. I made it to 2,000 before I stopped. Soon, we hit rapids. LaLonde yelled "Demi- Charge!" and we all paddled as hard as we could. When we reached St. Anne's church, we made an offering and went into the church to pray. I get along with my brigade well enough, I guess, besides when they call me grandpa.
  • Emile, I can´t believe we made it!
  • I had a hard experience as a voyageur, mostly because I was the only new voyageur. The hardest part was when we had to do a portage, which is when we carry our packs, rather than face the rapids on the river. I could only carry one pack, but my brigade told me after I finished that it was the heaviest one, by over 100 pounds!
  • Did the trip go well, Pierre?
  • Quite well, Doctor Guillard.
  • My brigade and I loved the nice weather, at least until the sky turned gray and the rain started to fall relentlessly, slapping the lake with water droplets. I got to show off my strength because my hands had finally healed. We all paddled as hard as we could.
  • I didn´t think I could believe my eyes when I saw Grand Portage in t distance. I was relieved, happy, and excited. I never thought I would make it this far, and now I was having the time of my life! Charbnneau´s friend, Mukwa, has a daughter named Kennewah, and that I would be able to meet her sometime when we had dinner at his home.
  • I know! It´s still a nice sight to see, even when you have done this for 3 years.
  • After we set out from grand portage, I was content and happy to be going home. I was super excited that I would finally see my family again. When I went into the backyard, I saw my father chopping wood and had flashbacks of the day that I had signed on to be a voyageur. after greeting him, I went in to greet the rest of my family.
