  • Orchard Farming
  • Hi! Today I am going to explain some types of Agriculture -
  • Market Gardening and Horticulture
  • Extensive Agriculture
  • So, let's start with Orchard Farming. It is the commercial cultivation of fruits normally practiced in the Mediterranean. Some examples of fruits cultivated are olives, figs, oranges and apricots. A specialty is Viticulture / Grape Cultivation.
  • Next up is Market Gardening and Horticulture. Horticulture means the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and flowers. These are then sold in the urban markets in the suburban areas. This is also called Truck Farming as fresh vegetables are transported to the markets by trucks.
  • Pastoral Farming
  • This is Extensive Agriculture. This is done in regions where there is abundant land but sparse population. The land is very big. All farming operations are fully mechanised. Some important crops grown in this are wheat, barley, etc.
  • Lastly, we have Pastoral Farming. It is the commercial rearing of livestock like cattle, sheep and goats for various products like milk, wool, hides, etc. This is practiced in the temperate grasslands.
