  • "Hey, Mrs. Dubose,"
  • "Don't you say hey to me, you ugly girl! You say good afternoon , Mrs. Dubose!" 
  • Do not listen to Mrs. Dubose, she is an old lady and she's ill. Keep you
  • "Your father's no better than the niggers and trash he works for!"
  • Mrs. Dubose is an bad tempered old lady that shouts at Jem and Scout whenever they pass by. Atticus tells Jem to be nice to Mrs. Dubose because she is elderly and ill.
  • Mrs. Dubose should not talk about my father like that!
  • Jem and Scout would complain to Atticus about Mrs. Dubose insulting Atticus but Atticus tells his children to ignore her. "She's just an old lady and she's ill. You just hold your head high and be a gentlemen. "(Lee 133)
  • You will read to me everyday for a month and read to me because you ruined my bushes!
  • This one day, Mrs. Dubose insults Atticus in front of Jem and Scout. She says, "Your father's no better than the niggers and trash he works for!" (Lee 135).
  • Mrs. Dubose passed away, due to an addiction to morphine, but she left this gift for you.
  • Jem began to get furious so he grabbed Scout's baton and destroyed Mrs. Dubose's camellia bushes until the ground was cluttered up with leaves and green buds. "... He had cut the top off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose owned, until the ground was littered with green buds and leaves." (Lee 137).
  • When Atticus found out about this catastrophe, he took matters in her own hands and made Jem go to Mrs. Dubose house every day for a month and read to her. 
  • Later on, Mrs. Dubose passes away and leaves a candy box for Jem. When Jem opens it, he finds a camellia flower which he made him emotional.
