  • On August 27, 1776, During the Battle of Long Island, the Continental army only consisted of 10,000 soldiers while the British army had 20,000 soldiers. Due to this massive difference the Americans lost. George Washington almost surrendered but due to the fog, they were able to get away and continue to fight other battles.

  • The Battle of Trenton happened on December 26, 1776. In this battle, the Colonists beat the British. In the battle of Princeton, on January 3, 1777, George Washington sailed over the Delaware River. They then won the battle that followed. These two battles were great victories for the Continental Army. It showed that the Colonists could beat the British

  • On September 19, 1777, there was the Battles of Saratoga between the British and the Colonists. The British won the battle but lost a lot of soldiers. Only 18 days later on October 7, 1777,  the British attacked the Colonists again. This victory happened when the French joined the war to help the Colonists. This was the turning point for the Colonists in the war.

  • In the December of 1777, 12,000 colonists, soldiers, Native Americans, African Americans etc., had to live through a really rough winter. 2000 people died due to lack of food/resources and to diseases. George Washington said Valley Forge was  "a dreary kind of place and uncomfortably provided." This experience made them look more like an army.

  • In South Carolina, there was the Battle of Charleston which is known as the worst battle of the Revolutionary War. In this battle, General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered and 3000 patriots were captured

  • In South Carolina, there was the battle of the Cowpens. The continental army(colonists)  had made a strategy to defeat the British and they won.This was the turning point of the war in the south and this lead to Yorktown.

  • The battles of Yorktown were the last battles of The Revolutionary War. In the final one, the Americans had captured two British defense and a day later 9,000 British troops surrendered. After a couple of days, Britain had finally decided to negotiate a peace treaty between the two countries and end the war.
