- Harriet Jacobs was born unknowingly into slavery February 11, 1813.
- Let's name her Harriet Anne Jacobs.
- After Harriets mother passed when she was six she moved in with her mistress who taught her how to read and write.
- Thank you, I am so grateful.
- I am going to teach you how to read and write.
- She is only 5 years old, I am supposed to be free.
- Harriet and her brother were sold to a family where Harriet was willed to the womans 5 year old daughter as her slave.
- Welcome, you belong to my 5 year old daughter.
- But I don't want to.
- Dr. Finn would sexually harass Harriet.
- You belong to me, you do as I say.
- Dr. Finns jealous wife found out what he was doing which made her watch Harriet more. She would stand over her while she slept and pretend that she was him whispering in her ear to see how she would respond.
- Harriet hid in a garret for seven years at her grandmothers house watching her children grow and the other slaves she worked with.
- I have to find a way to escape with my children.
