Today class, we will be learning about Ancient Egypt, starting with it's geography.
"Black lands" was used to describe the fertile area around the Nile, while "Red lands" was used to describe the hot desert surrounding Egypt.
Egypt is in Africa, built around the Nile River and surrounded by desert.
One of their most famous leaders was King Tutankhamen, or King Tut, who became pharaoh when he was only 10 years old.
When Tut became pharaoh, he changed the Egyptian religion back to polytheistic, worshiping multiple gods.
King Tut's father, who had been pharaoh before Tut, had changed the Egyptian religion from worshiping multiple gods to only worshiping one god, Aton.
The social hierarchy shows the different levels and importance of the Egyptian people
Nobles and scribes
commoners and farmers
The Egyptians used hieroglyphics to write.
And they used them to tell the stories of pharaohs on the walls of their tombs.
The Egyptians worshiped many gods, one of them being Thoth.
Thoth was the god of wisdom and the moon.
He was thought to have invented writing and hieroglyphics, so he is often seen carrying a pen and palate.
They also made shadufs, which made it much easier to transport water to the crops.
The pyramids were one of the Egyptians greatest achievements.
And with that students, class is dismissed.
