  • Before Africa was imperialized by Europe, the continent was made up of 1000's of ethnic groups that spoke all different Languages.
  • In 1853 - 1856 the Russians lost the Crimean war on the Crimean Peninsula to the British, French, and the Ottomans. The Initial cause of the war was the rights of the Christians in the Holy Land.

  • The Sepoy Mutiny was a war between the British and Indians in from 1857 - 1858. In the end the British won the battle.
  • The Suez canal was a man-made waterway connecting the red to the mediteranian sea. Opened in 1869
  • The Berlin conference of 1884 - 1885 was a meeting between 14 European countries to decode how to divide up Africa. All of the leaders of the 14 nations were present, the African leaders were left out.
  • The Boer war was a fight between the British and the Boers. The war took place from 1899 - 1903, and the outcome was the Treaty of Vereeniging was signed which ended the war, allowing Britian to imperialize more of Africa
