  • Aleppo, Syria - 2015
  • Kilis, Turkey - 2015
  • Somewhere on The Mediterranean Sea - 2015
  • Mahmoud, a 13-year old Syrian boy, was praying when a missile crashed into the wall, he ran through the stairs. Meanwhile, Mahmoud's mom was in her room gathering diapers and other necessities. Mahmoud's younger brother, Waleed, was just unsurprised because this went on every day. Mahmoud's dad came immediately in his car to check up on them and to leave to go to Turkey.
  • Hungary - 2015
  • They started driving to Turkey and got to a refugee camp. Mahmoud's dad came in contact with a smuggler to try and get a boat to seek refuge in Greece.
  • Hungary to Germany - 2015
  • After being told not yet every day, the boat finally came. Well, it wasn't a boat but a dinghy. The dinghy ended up sinking and Mahmoud's dad and Waleed were separated in the water. Mahmoud's mom and him ended up having to give Hana up to another dinghy to make sure she was safe and that his mom was able to swim. They were rescued by an Greek Coast Guard Ship, they went from there to the Hungarian Border.
  • Berlin, Germany - 2015

  • At the Hungarian Border, they were taken to a detention center, where they were beaten up and treated like criminals. There, they were going to be taken back to Serbia to Syria. Mahmoud's mom was going around asking anyone if they saw or met a baby named Hana.
  • Mahmoud finally had enough and decided to just walk out. The soldiers did nothing, although they had their guns ready to shoot, nothing happened. When Mahmoud left and went out of the door, other people followed and soon, everyone started to walk out of there, to the German Border.
  • When they got to the border, the people were welcoming and gave out clothes, food, and shelter. A man came towards Mahmoud and asked if they were seeking asylum. The German Government took in Mahmoud and his family and they were taken in by a host family until Mahmoud's family got back on their feet.
