The definition of friend is “someone you can trust and are on good terms with” and Karen doubts if Jen is a true friend. Karen is a wife whose two year wedding anniversary is tomorrow and she is going to bake a dark chocolate raspberry cake for dessert at her party tomorrow. Her best friend, Jen, is coming over and Karen is very excited to see her! When Jen arrived Scout, Karen’s dog, pounces on her like she is a bouncy house.
Karen invites her to the kitchen. Jen takes her rings off on the counter top and Karen does the same. Karen goes to get the ingredients and Jen looks at the recipe. Scout smells the bitter chocolate and rests his head on the counter to see the food. Jen gets startled when she hears a small thud but she thinks nothing of it.
When Karen gets back the two friends catch up while they bake. Jen starts cleaning the kitchen when she hears a “beep beep” and knows the cake is ready to bake. Jen puts the cake in and Karen finishes up cleaning.
When they go to put on their rings Karen’s wedding ring is missing but Jen’s rings aren't! Karen looks all over the kitchen along with Jen and it is nowhere to be found. Karen shouts “My husbands going to kill me!”. Jen tries to comfort her by saying “Maybe it walked away”. Jen then adds “Let’s look in other rooms on the ground”. Karen is thinking that maybe Jen isn’t her friend and that she took it for money.
Jen is looking under the couch when Karen asks “Did you take my ring ?” in a stern voice. Jen said no. Karen goes to get Scout food when she hears a bark. When she goes to put food in his bowl she sees her ring! She is very confused and asks Jen “Why was my ring in Scout’s bowl?”. Jen realized that when she was reading the recipe that Scout must have pushed it in his bowl and that was what the thud was.
Karen is relieved that she found her ring and that Jen is truly her best friend.
