Liv starts to have concerns about the relationship. Nothing is said to their partners, but there is the start of the cognitive shift.
our relationship is in trouble
Liv's attention during this stage is inwards. Thinks about the relationship & considers ending it. Accompanied by social withdrawal. Nothing is said to Will, however indirect communication shows dissatisfaction.
Grave Dressing Phase
I didn't break us up, our circumstances did
Liv confronts Will and explains why she is unhappy. They discuss their feelings and the future. Discussion can be angry. Commitment is reviewed. Can re-negotiate to save relationship or terminated.
Will and Liv are now making their social network aware of their situation. This will be for advice and support. Some might be helpful, however if people take sides this won't help.
Liv is attempting to put herself in a positive light. She may reinterpret how they broke up to gain sympathy. She is coming up with a way to communicate the reasons for the breakup.
Both Will and Liv are redefining themselves as they start to prepare for new relationships. This may include building on mistakes, review what they want in the future and re-establish their identity.
