Storyboard Text

  • After african americans were freed from slavery, some still faced discrimination. Many blacks bought farmland and grew cotton. After that, african americans were finding reasons to leave the south. African americans planned migrations to kansas.
  • Even more african americans came to kansas from the deep south. People were sending money to help the exodusters. Governer john st. john (yes that is his real name) felt sympothy for the exodusters.
  • 25 years after the cival war, kansas saw it's population rise by more than a million people. The state was actively gaining immigrants.
