In the biginning of the story, Montresor finds Fortunato. They meet in a carnival and says Fortunato " had on a tight-fitting parti-striped dress, and his head was surmounted by the conical cap and bells." He thinks he looks silly and dumb(Poe, 4).
After talking with Fortunato, Montresor's plan is starting to work. Fortunato comes with him to his place to try the Amontillado. Fortunato insisted to go and said the cold is merely nothing. You have been imposed upon. And as for Luchresi, he cannot distinguish Sherry from Amontillado." He was mad because Montresor said he was going to ask somenone else to try the wine.
When they get to his place, Montresor says it not a good idea to go into the catacombs because his combs. Fortunato will not listen and tells him sharply "the cough's a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough." SO the two push on. Montresor tells him the Amontillado is farther down in the catacombs(Poe, 36).
His plan was working now. Fortunatoś health was getting worse by the minute. Even with his health he tells Montressor that they need proceed to the Amontillado. He walks in the room he will die in.
Without knowing, Montressor tells Fortunato to give him his hand. Fortunato asked for "The Amontillado!" Monstresor chains him and now fortunato is stuck. It is about to be the end of him(Poe, 74).
Montresor was almost finished with the wall when he feels regretful for what he is about to do. Fortunato and Montresor have there last conversion. He throws the torch in and seals the wall. Fortunato is dead.
