February 1, 1917. Germany resumes submarine warfare in European waterways. This draws the U.S. into war and causes the defeat of Germany.

February 25, 1917. The Zimmerman telegram. Germany sent it to Mexico asking them to join them against the U.S. in return for giving them back their lost provinces if they win. British intelligence gave President Wilson the telegram.

April 6, 1917. Congress declares war on Germany and allies with France and Britain.
