King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella decided to unite everyone under one religion, Roman Catholicism. Isabella and Ferdinand both had different reasons to reinstate the Spanish Inquisition.
The Spanish Reconquista pt1
Inquisitors would question any supposedly heretics. The kingdom wanted to question specifically Jews and Muslims to see if they would be loyal to Catholicism. If someone was found guilty in this court, there were cruel punishments such as torture, death and more.

During this time, inquisitors burned all the books the had to relate to any religion other than Catholicism. The Spanish Inquisition impacts many historians this day as they could have made so many advancements from the books if they weren't burned.

The war is over!
A large portion of the Iberian Peninsula was under Moorish rule. The Kingdom of Aragon and Catalonia both united to defeat the Moorish rule down in the south.
After the Muslims lost the city of Cordoba and Cadiz, they held on to one small Kingdom down in the south, Granada. It was later on captured by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella I 's conquistadors. in 1492. Moorish rule is now over.
During this time, the two largest kingdoms were unified with the marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella. If the Reconquista had not occur, Spain wouldn't have been where it is to this day as there were many kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula.
