  • The Sugar Act lowered taxes on molasses, but that was  still not good enough for the colonists.  
  • The Sugar Act, 1764
  • Did you hear about the new act on lowering the  tax on molasses?
  • I heard, but there shouldn't be a tax at all.  They didn't even ask for our opinion!
  • With the Sugar Act, officers could  go into peoples houses anytime they wanted with just one paper.   The British used this as a way intimidate the colonists.
  • Open up we have Writs of Assistance
  • You already checked our home yesterday  for smuggled goods.
  • Officers could confiscate goods without going to court if they even suspected something was smuggled. This really upset the colonists.
  • I suspect you smuggled this molasses we will have to confiscate it.
  • I swear that I paid the taxes!
