With the Sugar Act, officers could go into peoples houses anytime they wanted with just one paper. The British used this as a way intimidate the colonists.

Officers could confiscate goods without going to court if they even suspected something was smuggled. This really upset the colonists.
I suspect you smuggled this molasses we will have to confiscate it.
