In a summer (June 27) of peace and joy, children collected stones while all the families of the town gathered in the plaza for the annual lottery.
arrives at the Plaza Mr. Summer with the black box to start the lottery, Tessie is late, the representative of each family comes forward and picks up a piece of paper from the box without looking at it.
Bill takes out the paper with the black spot. His wife says that her husband did not have time and that it was not fair. Mr. Summers sent the Hutchinson family to get 5 papers and whoever got the black spot won the lottery
Everyone in the family had their papers blank except Tessie. It means Tessie has the black dot and is the winner.
Tessie started to feel scared and said “that it’s not fair, it’s not right. The villagers began collecting the stones and formed a circle around Tessie.
A stone hits her on the head. Old Man Warner, urges the villagers on. The villagers descend upon Tessie with the stones.
