As a child the narrator had a strong love to pets that carried on into his adulthood.
He starts to get annoyed with his pet cat Pluto that he loves. Anger starts to bubble up inside him but he decides to ignore Pluto for the cats safety.
He comes home drunk one night. This makes him decide to gouge Pluto's eye out in a fit of anger.
As he gets annoyed with Pluto's missing eye he hangs the cat out of irritation.
He finds a new cat that looks like Pluto at a bar the only difference in the cats appearance is the new cat has a white mark on it's breast. He loves it dearly as the cat has endeared itself to him and his wife.
He comes home angry, and because he was drunk he decided to act upon this anger. He decides to strike the cat with an axe but his wife stops him and he takes the axe to her skull.
