I am Elizabeth Blackwell. I was born in Bristol, England in 1821
EB came to the U.S. by boat in 1832
I became a teacher and started a school with my sisters and mother until i decided to become a doctor
I tried to get into many medical schools but was rejected because Iam a women. The thirteenth college i applied to admitted me as a practical joke but was let in anyway i was the only female medical student for decades. The male students and professors did not respect me until i graduated first in my class.
I started my own medical practice because no one would hire a women i started a hospital for poor women and children
I travel the world giving lectures, wrote an autobiography, advocated for other woman, created a medical school for women
